Winter 2009-10 MWC Performers of the Week

February 2, 2010: Week #3

MEN'S TRACK

Matt Wood

Freshman

Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington

Wood broke a school record in the 200 meters running a time of 23.0 enroute to second place in the event. He also earned second in the 55 meters with a time of 6.73 and ran a leg on Ripon’s second place 4x200 team that finished in 1:34.33. Wood was also a part of the fourth place 4x400 team with a time of 3:34.20. In the MWC he is currently ranked first in the 400, third in the 200 and sixth in the 55.

MEN'S FIELD

Kyle Roy

Roy had a NCAA provisional qualitying mark in the Men’s Shot Put at Saturday’s UW-Stevens Point Invitational, finsihing second out of 36 throwers with a distance of
51-03.50. He currently ranks first in shot in the MWC and 12th nationally. Roy also placed fifth in the weight throw at the same meet with a throw of 50-05.50, ranking him third in that event in the MWC.

Scott Gillespie

Gillespie led Ripon to a pair of wins in the Red Hawk’s only two games last week, including a huge conference victory over Lawrence. Against the Vikings, Gillespie recorded the sixth double-double of his career, registering 29 points and 10 assists, to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. The following day, in a 30-point victory over Rockford College, Gillespie posted 26 points and seven assists. For the week, Gillespie averaged 27.7 points, 8.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, while also shooting 61 percent (22-36) from the field and 79 percent (11-14) from the free throw line. His 55 points last week also move him into Ripon’s top 10 career scoring leaders with 1,230 career points.
February 8, 2010: Week #10

Aris Wurtz

Sophomore

Wurtz led Ripon to wins in all three of their games last week, extending the Red Hawk’s win streak to five games. Against Beloit, Wurtz scored 27 points and pulled down eight rebounds. He followed that up with a career-high 37 points in a victory over Grinnell, which is the 10th highest single game point total in school history, while also recording 11 rebounds. He closed the week with a 29-point, six-rebound effort in a win over Monmouth. In those three games, Wurtz averaged 31 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, while converting on 81 percent (34-42) of his shots from the field, including 75 percent (6-8) from 3-point range. He also made 90 percent (19-21) of his free throws.

Women's Basketball

Ripon, Wis./Ripon

Lind led Ripon to a 2-1 record last week, with wins over UW-Oshkosh and Luther College. In the three games combined, Lind averaged 16 points, 6.3 rebounds and one steal per game, while shooting 40 percent (19-47) from the field, 31 percent (4-13) from 3-point range and 75 percent (6-8) from the free throw line. In Ripon’s 66-61 win over UW-Oshkosh, Lind scored 16 of her career-high 23 points in the second half.
