Red Hawks Clinch Playoff Spot

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - It took longer than they had hoped, but the Ripon volleyball team clinched a spot in next weekend's Midwest Conference Tournament with a win at Lake Forest College on the final day of the regular season. The Red Hawks breezed through the match, winning in three sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21. Ripon's dominating performance was highlighted by 35 kills, including double-digit kill numbers in all three sets.

The Red Hawks (10-16, 6-3 MWC) were led by Anna Alvin's game-high nine kills. Jeni Yaeger added eight kills, to go along with eight digs, one solo block, one block assisted, and a service ace. Christy Looker and Amy Patton finished with seven and six kills, respectively, while Patton also recorded 13 digs. Sara Heim led the team with 17 digs, while Andrea Zak and Alison Ernst combined for 32 assists.

Lake Forest's Ashley Cretacci tried to keep the Forester's (8-19, 4-5 MWC) playoff hopes alive, with a team-high seven kills and nine digs. Amy Chappuis added six kills, while Mandi Mulliner recorded five of her own. Deena Blanchard also chipped in with 10 assists, three service aces, and six digs in the losing effort.

This win means the Red Hawks will travel to DePere, Wis. on Friday to face Beloit College in the first round of the MWC Tournament. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. with the second semi-final game to follow. Both games, as well as Saturday's MWC Championship Game can be seen live on www.midwestconference.tv at 1 p.m.
