RIPON, Wis. – The Chamber Music & Jazz Series at Ripon College is proud to present one of the world’s most distinguished quartets, the Pro Arte Quartet. The group will share its classical style at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 in the Demmer Recital Hall in C.J. Rodman Center of the Arts.
The Pro Arte Quartet was founded in 1912 as the court quartet to Queen Elizabeth of Belgium. The quartet made more than 30 tours to the United States, and after World War II accepted a position as the ensemble-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The quartet still calls the Madison campus home, and consists of two violin players, a violist and cellist.
Through all of their performances, the Pro Arte Quartet hopes to convey a deep passion for classical music. The program for the Ripon College concert includes “String Quartet in C major, Op. 74 No. 1” by Franz Josef Haydn, and “String Quartet No. 2 in D minor, Op. 15” by Alexander von Zemlinsky.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors, and Ripon faculty and staff; and $8 for youths age 18 and under. The Chamber Music and Jazz series is in its 37th year. For more information contact Professor Kurt Dietrich at (920) 748-8791 or dietrichk@ripon.edu.
