Author David McGlynn to read at Ripon College
Author David McGlynn of Appleton, Wis., will be the featured speaker at the Friends of Lane Library annual meeting Wednesday, March 27, at Lane Library on the Ripon College campus.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. with McGlynn reading from his book “A Door in the Ocean,” an eloquent memoir about coming to terms with tragic violence, loss, faith, and family. A question-and-answer session along with book signing and refreshments will follow.
McGlynn is an associate professor of English at Lawrence University in Appleton. He is the author of the story collection “The End of the Straight and Narrow,” which won the 2008 Utah Book Award. He was a finalist for the 2009 Steven Turner Award for Best First Fiction and received an “Outstanding Achievement” honor from the Wisconsin Library Association.
His stories and essays have appeared in “Men’s Health,” “The Huffington Post,” “Best American Sports Writing” and numerous literary journals.
A lifelong swimmer, McGlynn captured a national championship in the 500-yard freestyle at the 2001 United States Masters National Championships. He now competes in open water races and on most mornings is the first one in the pool.
