Ripon College Choral Union to perform April 21

Seong-Kyung GrahamThe Ripon College Choral Union will perform at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, April 21, in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the Ripon College campus. Admission to the concert is free.

The theme of the concert is “War and Peace.”

Selections include “He watching over Israel” from the oratorio “Elijah,” by Felix Mendelssohn; “Soldier, Soldier.” based on Virginian folksong by John Powell; “Agnus Dei,” by Samuel Barber, a piece often heard in media after 9/11, with freshman soloist London Mosher of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” with baritone soloist Randy Zieth of Green Lake, Wis.

“Freedom Come from Bandari: Inside These Walls,” by Ben Allaway, will feature solos by Mosher and freshman Brandon Mastalish of Mayville, Wis. Junior Ben Paulson of Ripon, Wis., will perform on congas.

“Mass in Time of War (Paukenmesse),” by Joseph Haydn, will feature solos by soprano Andrea Young, assistant professor of math and computer science; alto Diane Smith, sophomore, of Bowler, Wis.; tenor Andrew Widder, sophomore, of Mequon, Wis.; and bass Alex Thao, unior, of Manitowoc, Wis. Paulsen will perform on timpani.

“The Peaceable Kingdom,” by Randall Thompson, with words from the scripture in Isiah, will feature solos by Smith, Mastalish and Thao; Elizabeth Vornholt, junior, of Neillsville, Wis.; Sunny Stroede, junior, of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; Brenna Richards, junior, of Ripon, Wis.; Bruce King, junior, of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and Jordan Conner, junior, of Park Falls, Wis.
