Messitte Op-Ed: Time for Washington Redskins to rethink name
Ripon College President Zach Messitte penned an opinion piece titled “Time to rethink Redskins name” that appeared in the September 9, 2013 edition of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
In the piece, Messitte, a Washington D.C. transplant and professed fan of the Washington NFL team, discusses the NFL’s path forward and the difficulties inherent in a name change. He also examines Ripon College’s own past and its transition from the “Redmen” nickname to the Ripon College Red Hawks in the early 1990’s.
