Ripon College Receives $565,000 Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Ripon College has received a two-year, $565,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support four new faculty appointments in the Humanities and incorporate non-Western subject matter into the curriculum. The grant was made by the foundation’s Liberal Arts Colleges Program.

“Ripon College is fortunate to have a first rate faculty that is fundamentally committed to teaching, research and service to our community,” said President Zach Messitte. “The Mellon Foundation’s extraordinary commitment to the liberal arts will help us make the transition to the next generation of faculty excellence at Ripon.”

The faculty appointments are designed to allow new faculty to assimilate to the College and senior faculty to transition to retirement by meeting developmental needs specific to their career paths, including the establishment of a valedictory fund to empower teaching and research pursuits. This initiative will allow the College to capitalize on the work of both senior and new faculty to enhance teaching, learning and scholarship.

“With the Mellon Foundation funding, the College aims to create meaningful opportunities for new hires and senior faculty to pursue their research and teaching, while also emphasizing their productive participation in Ripon’s vibrant liberal arts and sciences campus community,” says Gerald Seaman, vice president and dean of faculty at Ripon College.

The Mellon funds will be used over two academic years, 2014-15 and 2015-16.
