Music students perform at select state events

Three Ripon College students participated in the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association (WCDA) All-State Collegiate Choir held Jan. 14 and 15 in Appleton, Wisconsin. They are, pictured at top right, from left, JaneMarie Erickson ’16 of Redgranite, Wisconsin; Jimmy Balistreri ’19 of Plymouth, Wisconsin and Cori Fredericks ’19 of Appleton, Wisconsin.

The WCDA Collegiate All-State Choir consists of men and women representing two-year and four-year colleges and universities in Wisconsin whose directors are members of WCDA. Each college’s director of choral activities nominated students who are trustworthy, skilled musicians and demonstrate academic prowess, intrinsic motivation and are focused in rehearsal.

Ripon also had three students perform in the National Band Association-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Honors Band Jan. 21 and 22 in Appleton. They are, pictured at bottom, from left, Rylie Morris ’19 of Dousman, Wisconsin, bassoon; Kate Cichon ’19 of Menasha, Wisconsin, clarinet; and Cris Magana, ’19 of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, baritone saxophone.

The 90-member band was comprised of college and university band students from Wisconsin who were selected based on recommendations and rankings from NBA directors within the Wisconsin chapter. This year marked the 14th annual honors band performance which is a showcase event for both students and conductors and held as part of the group’s annual convention.
