Talk by Milwaukee art gallery owner rescheduled to Tuesday, March 8
Milwaukee art gallery owner Debra Brehmer will speak at Ripon College at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. The presentation will be in Room 147, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. All are welcome to attend.
Brehmer is a writer and art historian who runs Portrait Society Gallery in Milwaukee. She is especially interested in how portraits convey meaning.
The gallery has been at the forefront of many dialogues about art issues in Milwaukee, and it was the representative for artists and artworks that have garnered discussion nationwide. Included are artist Niki Johnson, who exhibited a portrait of the Pope made from condoms which was bought by The Milwaukee Art Museum; and a portrait of Michele Obama’s arms cast in glass.
The gallery also was the first in Wisconsin to exhibit the photographs of Vivian Maier.
