Lamont Colucci publishes opinion piece on Newsmax
“Americans Need to Overcome Complacency About National Security,” an opinion piece by Lamont Colucci, associate professor of politics and government, was published March 29, 2019, on Newsmax.
Colucci describes what he sees as complacency in regard to national security in the last few generations of United States citizens, and suggests people of the United States should change their ways before succumbing to “a fool’s paradise.”
He supports his argument through an analysis of “Providing for the Common Defense: The Assessments and Recommendations of the National Defense Strategy Commission,” released in November 2018 by the National Defense Strategy Commission.
“The conclusions are numerous and devastating,” he writes. “These include the inability to fight a two-front war, or even deter one of the great powers. The military is overstretched, under-resourced, and military strategy is not fully integrated into diplomatic, intelligence, and economic goals.”
The entire piece can be read here.
