Visiting Triskelion Trio to perform newly commissioned works Nov. 11

Triskelion Trio, a unique chamber ensemble dedicated to advocating for music by living composers, will perform in the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon series Friday, Nov. 11, at Ripon College. The program will begin at 7 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.

All events in the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon Series are free and open to the public.

Selections include “Whimsy! for Horn, Trombone, and Piano” (2019), by Gina Gillie: “Triptych for Horn, Trombone and Piano” (2013), by Andy Wolfe; “Purple Heart for Horn, Trombone, and Piano“ (2021), by Elaine Ross; and “Spectra for Horn, Trombone, and Piano” (2016), by James Naigus.

Formed in 2014, Triskelion Trio performs newly commissioned works written specifically for this instrumentation of horn, trombone and piano. Their name comes from an ancient symbol consisting of spiral shapes bound in three-fold rotational symmetry.

Trio members are Jiyoun Chung, assistant professor of theory and composition at Central Washington University; Jason M. Johnston, associate professor of horn and concert band at the University of Idaho; and John S. Neurohr, professor of trombone at Central Washington University.

In addition the public concert at Ripon, the artists will present a masterclass with students of both Adjunct Professor of Music Jessica Jensen’s brass studio and Adjunct Instructor of Music Deb MacKenzie’s piano studio earlier in the day.
