Ripon College choirs to present joint concert Sunday
The three Ripon College choral ensembles will present a combined concert Sunday, Feb 19. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. It is free and open to the public. The conductors are Assistant Professor of Music Paul Thompson and Adjunct Instructor of Music Abby Schmidt. Adjunct Instructor of Music Deb MacKenzie is the pianist.
Choral Union, conducted by Schmidt, includes students and community members. Their selections include “The Road Not Taken” from “Frostiana,” with text by Robert Frost and music by Randall Thompson; “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” text by Paul Laurence Dunbar and music by Bryan Sharpe; “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind,” text by William Shakespeare and music by John Rutter; and “Three Madrigals,” text by William Shakespeare and music by Emma Lou Diemer.
Concert Choir, directed by Thompson, will perform “Hora,” by Julius Chajes; “Drop, Drop, Slow Tears,” by Orlando Gibbons; “Wake Every Breath,” by William Billings; and “Ujedinite Se,” by Jim Papoulis, with Ethan Hansen ’23 of Franksville, Wisconsin, and Evan Jensen ’24 of Janesville, Wisconsin, on percussion.
Chamber Singers, directed by Thompson, will perform “Round and Round the Earth is Turning,” and English folk song; “Miri it is,” 13th century English, with instrumentalists Ayanna Jorgenson ’26 of Ripon, Wisconsin, violin; Rori Beatty ’26 of Ripon, Wisconsin, cello; and Evan Jensen ’24 of Janesville, Wisconsin, tambourine; “My shepherd is the living Lord,” by Thomas Tomkins; “San Pedro trotó cien años,” by Rolando Alarcón; “Peace Flows Into Me,” by Jake Runestad; and “If Music Be the Food of Love,” by David C. Dickau.
The combined choirs will perform “Adiemus” from “Songs of Sanctuary,” by Karl Jenkins, with instrumentalists Ayanna Jorgenson ’26 of Ripon, Wisconsin, and Isaac Tomaschefsky ’24 of Green Bay, Wisconsin, violin; Haileey Pick ’25 of Kingwood, Texas, cello; Benjamin Cabala ’24 of Madison, Wisconsin, flute; Juan Gatica ’26 of Ripon, Wisconsin, horn; Emilia Mans ’24 of Princeton, Wisconsin, bass clarinet; Paul Thompson, electric basa; Ethan Hansen ’23 of Franksville, Wisconsin, percussion.
