Ripon College Chamber Singers, Concert Choir to celebrate song in concert Nov. 5
The Ripon College Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will perform a concert, “How Can I Keep from Singing,” Sunday, Nov. 5. The concert will begin at 3:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, in the campus. Admission is free and open to the public. The concert will explore music about singing, why we sing, how we sing, and to whom we sing.
Chamber Singers will perform Francesco Durante’s Magnificat in C Major, with soloists Ayanna Jorgenson ’26, Racine, Wisconsin, soprano; Lucie Hodgkins ’25, Winneconne, Wisconsin, alto; Peter Loewenstein ’25, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, tenor; and Emilia Mans ’24, Princeton, Wisconsin, bass. Other selections include works by Thomas Tallis, Henry Purcell, Andrea Ramsey, Alessandro Scarlatti, Gerald Finzi and David Dickau.
Concert Choir will perform a folk song, a spiritual and works by Lloud Pfautsch, Josquin de Prez and Ernani Aguiar.
The tenors and basses of the two choirs will combine for two pieces, and both full choirs will conclude the concert with Gwyneth Walker’s arrangement of the Quaker hymn “How Can I Keep from Singing.”
Assistant Professor of Music Paul Thompson is the conductor, and Deb MacKenzie is the pianist/accompanist. Student conductors, Evan Jensen ’24, Janesville, Wisconsin, and Owen Mehring ’25, Waterford, Wisconsin, each will conduct a piece with Concert Choir.
