Peter Loewenstein ’24 to perform guitar recital Dec. 8 at Thrasher Opera House

Peter Loewenstein ’24 of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, will perform a guitar recital Friday, Dec. 8, at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake. The recital will begin at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. There also will be an artist’s reception.

The recital is part of the opera house’s Thrasher Reaches Out program, which aims to bring the transformative power of music to members of area communities.

At Ripon, Loewenstein is majoring in music with minors in environmental studies and philosophy. He sings with Concert Choir and Chamber Singers and plays with Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo, in addition to Guitar Ensemble.

He has an extensive background in music. He started singing at the age of 11 and played piano for 10 years. He began playing guitar in the second semester of his first year at Ripon and has played classical guitar for a year and a half.

He plays music by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Agustin Barrios Mangore, Matteo Carcassi, Francisco Tarrega, Dionisio Aguado and Fernando Sor, and plays and sings folk/pop covers and classical music on the guitar.

“Music is the lifeblood of civilization; do not underestimate the power of music to bring about transformative change,” he says.

Loewenstein plans to earn a master’s degree in music theory and guitar performance, then become a professor.
