Classical guitar recital to be presented Feb. 23 at Ripon College
A classical guitar recital with Dr. Christopher Cramer, adjunct professor of music, will be presented Friday, Feb. 23, at Ripon College. The recital will begin at 7 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program will include works by Jan Antonín Losy, a Bohemian aristocrat who was based in Prague; Spanish composer Fernando Sor; Federico Moreno Torroba, a prolific composer for the guitar, especially in a popular Spanish theatrical form; Joaquín Turina, a Spanish composer of the early 20th century; and Oscar Chilesotti, who was an eminent Italian musicologist and lute scholar.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Cramer has performed in the United States, Canada and Asia. Recent concert engagements have taken him to major cities including Boston, Montréal, Singapore and Taipei, among others. His repertoire includes masterworks of the past as well as newly composed works by contemporary composers.
His Wisconsin appearances include the Madison East Orchestra, Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, Beloit College Masterworks Chorus, Edgewood College Chamber Singers, St. Norbert Abbey Choir, St. Norbert College Chamber Singers and Men’s Chorus, and University of Wisconsin-Madison University Opera.
He is on the faculty of Ripon College, Beloit College, and St. Norbert College, and he is the director of guitar instruction at the Madison Academy of Music.
