Book by Kurt Dietrich about Al Jarreau ’62 wins silver medal
Never Givin’ Up: The Life and Music of Al Jarreau, written by Kurt Dietrich, professor of music emeritus, about the 1962 Ripon College alumnus, has won a silver medal in the Performing Arts and Music category of the Foreword INDIES awards.
The INDIES are a prestigious award in the independent publishing world which considers books from across the country.
In addition, Dietrich’s book was positively reviewed by Choice, a publishing unit of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. In its “Review of the Week,” published June 10 in commemoration of Black Music Month, the review concluded: “Written in an approachable style and carefully documented, this book will be valuable for fans and researchers of Jarreau’s music. Highly recommended.”
Never Givin’ Up: The Life and Music of Al Jarreau was published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press in 2023.
