Ripon College to host Trailways North Conference honors choir, band

RIPON, Wisconsin – Ripon College will host the Trailways North Conference honors choir on Monday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. in Demmer Hall in the Rodman Center for the Arts and the honors band on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. in Great Hall.

Every year, the Trailways North Conference creates an honors choir and band. The directors in the group choose a guest conductor, often a college director or a successful director from outside the conference.

Trailways North Conference schools are too small to host these honors groups, so last spring, Ripon College was approached about hosting and accepted.

The choir and band each consist of approximately 120 student musicians nominated by their high school music teachers.

The honors choir will be on the Ripon College campus all day on Monday, Nov. 4 to work with the Director of Choral Activities at Ripon College and conductor Paul Thompson.

After a full day of rehearsing the repertoire, they will present a free concert open to the public.

The honors band will be on the Ripon College campus all day on Wednesday, Nov. 13 to work with the Director of Bands at Ripon College and conductor Tobin Shucha.

After a full day of rehearsing the repertoire, they will also present a free concert open to the public.

“I think that people should attend the concerts because it really is amazing to see and hear that, in the course of less than eight hours, a group of young people can come together and form a team, and rehearse new music for just that day, and then perform great music together for an audience in the afternoon,” Shucha said.

About Ripon College: Ripon College prepares students of diverse interests for lives of productive, socially responsible citizenship. Our liberal arts curriculum and residential campus create an intimate learning community in which students experience a richly personalized education.
