Atimevu Drum and Dance Group to perform traditional music, dances of Ghana at Ripon College Feb. 7
Atimevu Drum and Dance Group will perform as part of the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon Series at Ripon College in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The ensemble will also lead a song workshop open to the community at 4:15 p.m. that day in Demmer Recital Hall.
Atimevu plays traditional music from Ghana, West Africa. The band formed 25 years ago in Madison, Wisconsin and has performed at cultural events, festivals, theaters, schools, weddings and parties in the United States.
The group is led by master drummer Emmanuel Eku, who has traveled the world performing with Ghana’s National Drum and Dance Company.
Other drummers and vocalists include Djam Vivie, Tim Gruber, Michael Kpodo, Ben Ballweg, Justin Klein and Nicky Sund.
Repertoire includes traditional rhythms and songs from Ghana except where noted:
