Ripon College’s theatre department to present “Silent Sky” Oct. 16-19

Ripon College’s theatre department is presenting the play “Silent Sky,” with performances in the Benstead Theatre in the C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts Oct. 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 19 at 2:30 p.m.

“Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson tells the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, a passionate astronomer who makes a groundbreaking discovery while working at Harvard in the early 1900s. As she fights for recognition in a male-dominated field, the play explores the balance between ambition, love and the vast wonder of the universe.

“(The play) foregrounds a woman whose constellation of achievements was long undervalued,” Assistant Professor of Theatre Lillian Brown said. “In a time when gender equity — especially in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) — remains a concern, ‘Silent Sky’ offers a resonant story of resilience and recognition. It reminds audiences that women’s contributions in science and the broader world are vital.”
