Female composer to discuss music and gender at 3 p.m. Nov. 19

Composer-in-residence Dale Trumbore will discuss her experiences as a female in the male-dominated field of music composition Thursday, Nov. 19, at Ripon College. “Music and Gender” will begin at 3 p.m. in Room 147, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. All are welcome to attend.

Professor of Music Sarah Kraaz will be the moderator.

Trumbore, of Los Angeles, California, is on campus for the world premiere of “Dancing is the Language of Sensation,” commissioned by Ripon College and to be presented by the Ripon College Chamber Singers Friday. The piece is the setting of a poem written by London Mosher ’16.

Trumbore’s compositions — hailed by the New York Times for their “soaring melodies and beguiling harmonies” — have been performed widely in the United States and internationally by ensembles including ACME, the Boston New Music Initiative, The Los Angeles Master Chorale, Northwest Symphony Orchestra, The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists and the USC Thornton Symphony.

Her talk on Thursday is co-sponsored by the American Studies Program, Women and Gender Studies Program, and the Ripon College Feminists.
