Ripon College alumni earn National Science Foundation honors

Jordan Buhle, a 2015 graduate of Ripon College, has been awarded a 2016 National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. Her award is in the field of chemistry-chemical catalysis. She is in her first year in the Ph.D. program in chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Winning honorable mentions were: Christine Anhalt-Depies ’09 in the filed of ecology and is studying wildlife ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; Derek Saxon ’15 in the field of chemistry-macromolecular, supramolecular and nanochemistry, who is in his first year in the Ph. D. program in chemistry at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; and Elizabeth Walsh ’14 in the field of life sciences-physiology. She is studying life sciences-ecology at Texas A&M University.

“The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship is arguably the most sought-after award by science graduate students in the United States,” said Patrick Willoughby, campus advisor for the NSF Graduate Fellowship. “As a former recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, this program transformed my own career prospects by providing me an award that was highly respected and recognizable. The accomplishments by Jordan, Elizabeth and Derek are very impressive and further demonstrate that Ripon College alumni can compete at high levels on a national stage.”
