Ripon College Chamber Singers, Choral Union perform April 24

The Ripon College Chamber Singers and Choral Union will present a concert Sunday, April 24. The concert will begin at 3:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the campus. It is free and open to the public.

Selections for the Chamber Singers are “Kyrie,” from “Missa Orbis factor,” anonymous (XIV–XVI century); “Ave verum corpus,” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791), with Emily Rausch ’16 of Deerfield, Wisconsin, as guest conductor; “Love Lost,” by Paul Sjolund (b. 1935); and “O schöne Nacht,” op. 92, no. 1, by Johannes Brahms (1833–1897).

Choral Union’s selections include “Under the Greenwood Tree,” by Ivor Gurney (1890–1937); “Fear No More the Heat o’ th’ Sun,” by David Ashley White (b. 1944), sung by the women of the choir; and “Who is Silvia?”, no. 5 of “Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare,” by George Shearing (1919–2011).

Also on the program are “Wedding Cantata,” by Daniel Pinkham (1923–2006); Placido è il mar, from “Idomeneo,” K. 366, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791), with Callista DeCramer as soloist; “Va, pensiero,” from “Nabucco,” by Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901); “Humming Chorus,” from “Madama Butterfly,” by Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924); and “Make Our Garden Grow,” from “Candide,” by Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990).

Dr. John C. Hughes, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Ripon College, is the conductor, and Maria Kaiser Dietrich is the pianist.
