Ripon College Jazz Ensemble performs April 29
The Ripon College Jazz Ensemble will present its spring concert on Friday, April 29, in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the campus. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free.
The ensemble will perform works from wide variety of jazz periods and styles. “Christopher Columbus” will be played in the 1936 arrangement of the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, as well as Bob Mintzer’s 1991 update. There will be jazz classics from 1950s Charles Mingus, 1960s Count Basie and Horace Silver, and 1980s Pat Metheny. Also on the program will be contemporary works by Wisconsin composer Paul Dietrich and his mentor, the late Fred Sturm.
The Jazz Improvisation group will feature familiar jazz pieces by Herbie Hancock and Josef Zawinul.
The groups are directed by Professor of Music Kurt Dietrich.
