Rafael Francisco Salas published in new anthology, will guest lecture in Kenosha
Professor of Art Rafael Francisco Salas has an essay in the newly published anthology Hope is the Thing: Wisconsinites on Perseverance in a Pandemic. The collection is edited by B.J. Hollars and published by Wisconsin History Press.
Contributors include Wisconsin Poet Laureate Dasha Kelly, former poet laureates Margaret Rozga and Kimberly Blaeser, and other lauded Wisconsin writers such as Jerry Apps.
Also, on Oct. 12, Salas will give a talk at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha as part of their celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
He will address his art and influences and said, “My artwork reflects on American tradition and identity. It speaks to an indignant desire for a dream continually just beyond reach. It is a strange, rural poetry of aspiration and poignant reality, a striver’s endeavor of high and low culture, situated between the elevated and the abject.”
