Immigration activist Enrique Morones will speak via Zoom April 19

“Immigration and Citizenship after COVID-19,” a Zoom talk, will be presented Tuesday, April 19, at Ripon College. Presented by the Student Advisory Board of the Center for Politics and the People, the program will run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Zoom link is at ripon.edu/Morones.

The speaker will be Enrique Morones, a longtime San Diego immigration activist and impassioned advocate for migrants as well as Latinos facing discrimination in the United States.

He is the founder of Border Angels, a nonprofit organization that advocates for human rights, humane immigration reform and social justice with a special focus on issues related to the U.S.-Mexican border. He served as the executive director until 2019.

He was the first person to gain dual United States and Mexican nationality in 1998. In 2009, Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon presented Morones with an award from the Human Rights Commission of Mexico. Morones’ 2012 memoir, The Power of One: The Story of the Border Angels, tells his story.

He frequently appears in media interviews, hosts podcasts and helps develop programs in support of the poor.
