Chemistry majors learn about Minnesota graduate program

This spring, Associate Professor of Chemistry Joe Scanlon took five chemistry majors to visit the University of Minnesota Department of Chemistry and learn more about its graduate program.

The trip was initiated by Dr. Laura Gagliardi after her visit to Ripon College in the fall and was mostly funded by the UMN Department of Chemistry. Students met with five professors or graduate students in their research area along with an overview of the chemistry graduate program by the director of graduate studies and a meeting with the presidents of two of the student groups in the chemistry department.

They also visited with alumni Derek Saxon ’15 and Spencer Reisbick ’15, both first-year students in the Minnesota program.

Participating students were Emily Cliff ’17, Robert Enright ’17, Geno Schneider ’17, Matt Paeth ’17 and Soe Tun ’17.
