Benjamin Fisher ’23 earns top award from international fraternity
Benjamin Fisher ’23 of Waupun, Wisconsin, won the Theta Chi fraternity’s 2021/2022 James Ralph “Shug” Jordan Award which he received at the 166th Anniversary Convention held during the summer in Washington, D.C.
He was selected from the fraternity’s 159 active chapters for its top scholar-athlete award for demonstrating impressive leadership service, and scholastic accomplishments as well as athletic ability and a commitment to excellence in intercollegiate athletics.
Fisher is majoring in exercise science-physical education with minors in educational studies and coaching. He has achieved Dean’s List recognition twice and a cumulative GPA of 3.14. He is a three-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, vice president of his Theta Chi chapter, a Town Square volunteer in Green Lake and a two-year track coach volunteer at Waupun High School.
He is a three-time varsity letter athlete in track and field with records in the high jump and as a member of the 4×200 meter relay team. He is the 2022 Midwest Conference indoor high jump champion and helped lead his team to the 2022 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. He also assisted with team responsibilities, hosting meets, and improving overall team recruiting and statistics as an intern for the Ripon team.
“The trip to D.C was an experience I’ll never forget,” Fisher says. “I had the pleasure of being accompanied by active brother Christian Schmidt ’23 and recent alumni Caleb Klingzing ’22 and Logan Zeinert ’22. I was overwhelmed by a sense of brotherhood when meeting fellow Theta Chi from all over the country from the friendliness I received.
“I had some great opportunities to attend workshops that gave me skills to bring back to our chapter at Ripon, as well as a chance to sit in on the election process of the Theta Chi international Executive Board. Going up to receive the Jordan award was a surreal experience. I could feel the warmth of all the smiles in the crowd from hundreds of brothers I just met but felt so connected to. It is such an honor to represent Ripon College and the Delta Omega chapter of Theta Chi as the recipient of this reward, and I cannot wait for the next convention.”
