Poet-in-residence Freesia McKee will give reading Nov. 12 in Lane Library

Freesia McKee, Ripon College’s poet-in-residence, will present a poetry reading at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. The reading will be in the North Reading Room of Lane Library. It is free and open to the public.

Megan Gannon, associate professor of English, will open the program with a short reading.

McKee writes about the influence of personal and collective histories on how we experience place. Her writing practice includes poetry, hybrid-genre work, lyric essay, memoir, flash fiction, book reviews and literary criticism.

She has been published in Cream City Review, Return to the Gathering Place of the Waters: Milwaukee Poets in 2017, The Ploughshares Blog, The Grabbed Anthology, South Florida Gay News, Ms. Magazine’s blog and other publications.

McKee grew up in Milwaukee and earned an MFA in poetry at Florida International University. She says she loves to write and teach because she loves to learn, especially when asking questions about power, tension, apathy and care.

The program at Ripon is sponsored by Wisconsin’s Own Library and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-Wisconsin, with funding provided by the Gwendolyn M. Schultz Charitable Trust.
