Lillian Brown appears in several theatrical productions

Assistant Professor of Theatre Lillian Brown had several theatrical appearances this year.

This summer, she performed her autobiographical one-women show, The Oreo Complex, in Washington, D.C., with NuSass theatre company. The show ran for 10 performances from May 20-June 3 and received a Helen Hayes Award recommendation. She also performed as the headliner for the St. Louis Fringe Festival. Her stellar reviews included:

• • “Brown has crafted an emotional masterpiece and every moment is executed expertly. … A sobering tour de force and one that everyone should see,” by Fosse Thorton in MD Theatre Guide.

• • “Don’t miss this opportunity to see such a powerful show!” by Hannah R. Wing in Broadway World.

Brown also was as cast as Regine in the play “Mud Row,” by Dominique Morriseau, which follows two generations of sisters in an area in the East End of West Chester, Pennsylvania. The play ran Aug. 10-27 as a part of the Black Theatre Festival sponsored by Black Arts MKE. The show was reviewed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

From Nov. 25-Dec. 17, Brown will appear in the play “The Mousetrap” at Next Act Theatre in Milwaukee. Agatha Christie’s world-famous murder mystery has a thrilling twist ending and is the world’s longest-running play.
