Ripon College music ensembles to present Holiday Concert Sunday

All of the music ensembles of the Department of Music at Ripon College will present their annual Holiday Concert Sunday, Dec. 3. Two performances are scheduled, at 2 and 6 p.m. in Great Hall, Harwood Memorial Union.

Admission to the concerts is free, but because of occupancy limitations in Great Hall, reservations are encouraged at http://ripon.edu/concert.

Doors will open 30 minutes before concert time with seating choices available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Orchestra, directed by Adjunct Instructor of Music Yukiko Grine, will present “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” by Eddie Pola and George Wyle, and “Winter Wonderland,” by Felix Bernard and Dick Smith.

  • Chamber Singers, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Paul Thompson, will perform “Invierno porteño,” by Astor Piazzola; and “Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child,” by Kenneth Leighton. Assistant Professor of Music Erin Bryan will be the soprano soloist.

  • Jazz Combo, directed by Adjunct Instructor of Music Paul Dietrich, will perform “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” by Felix Mendelssohn, arranged by Wynton Marsalis.
  •  
  • Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Toby Shucha, will play the traditional “A Hanukkah Festival”; and “March” from “The Nutcracker Suite,” by P. I. Tchaikovsky. Student Evan Jensen ’24 of Stoughton, Wisconsin, will conduct.

  • The combined choirs, directed by Thompson, will perform “Bashana Haba’ah Nurit Hirsh,” arranged by John Leavitt, and “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late),” by Ross Bagdasarian Sr.
  •  
  • Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dietrich, will play the traditional “Coventry Carol.”

The concert will conclude with all ensembles combining for the premiere of “Holiday Sing-along,” arranged by Kevin Padworski, commissioned specifically for the Ripon College holiday concerts.
