Tutoring Services

You can take advantage of all kinds of tutoring in the Heinz Franzen Learning Center. Find the support that meets your needs.

One-on-one contract and small group tutoring

You can request course-specific tutoring to support you throughout the semester. You’ll meet weekly for a minimum of two hours with a tutor who has successfully completed the course. Whether alone or with classmates, this is a great way to build in study time and access academic support.

Quantitative drop-in tutoring

Need some instant academic support? Just drop in for assistance when you need it. Tutors are available to help with 100- and 200-level courses in physics, math, chemistry, biology, economics and Catalyst 120.

Writing and presentation drop-in tutoring

Meet with a tutor for assistance with your written and oral communication (like presentations, essays and lab reports) or submit papers electronically for review. Our tutors can also help with the writing process, like organization, brainstorming, thesis structure and more.

Collaboration Rooms

Our space isn’t just for tutoring. The Heinz Franzen Learning Center also has six collaboration rooms for students to reserve. These are great places for studying with your classmates or to use when you need a quieter environment.

Peer-Led Undergraduate Study (PLUS)

This is a combination of Peer-Led Team Learning and tutoring and the workshops are a supplement to the week’s lecture. There are small group discussions and activities to facilitate student critical thinking for courses where are are a high number of tutor requests. These workshops are held once a week for 90 minutes and allow up to 10 students to join and the workshop leader meets weekly with the course instructor. PLUS sessions can be held for BIO 122/123, BIO 211, CHM 110, PHY 131 (currently) and PSC 110.

The Franzen Center is important because it provides a place to continually grow and improve our academic skills with the help of our tutors.

I like it because it is a great source of help. They always have people here to help with writing papers and you can always sign up or request to have a tutor for a specific class.
