Classical pianist and vocalist Alicia (Rhyner) Rytlewski ’10 will perform an alumna piano and voice recital in Demmer Recital Hall of Ripon College’s C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts Saturday, April 26, at 7 p.m.

Rytlewski will be performing pieces mostly from her debut album of songs, “When We Were Bears,” released in late January.

“‘When We Were Bears’ [is] an album containing nine years of creativity and composition, from the time I moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the first four years of my son,” Rytlewski said. “These pieces highlight important people, marriages and musical representations of weather, emotions and sometimes simply journeys of melodies and colors. The album plays around with genre, mixing classical, neoclassical, singer-songwriter and indie into a cohesive group.”

In addition to her album’s tracks, she will also perform unreleased pieces and other music that influences her work.

“As a special extension of the show, I’m also sharing brand new compositions that aren’t included on the album – ‘Lake Michigan’ and ‘Pluto’s Birth,’” Rytlewski said. “I’ve also included two pieces, ‘I Giorni’ and ‘Pern,’ from composers that I find great inspiration from, and I wanted to share these as well.”

Rytlewski graduated summa cum laude from Ripon with a music major and minors in Spanish and studio art. She has been teaching piano in Milwaukee for more than 10 years.

The recital is free and open to the public.
