Chamber Music & Jazz at Ripon: Mariachi San José Workshop & Performance

This event, held in Great Hall, will open with a mariachi workshop at 4:30 PM led by Mariachi San José director Dr. José R. Torres-Ramos, followed by a performance by the ensemble at 5:30 PM. All are welcome to the workshop, and light refreshments will be provided by a local restaurant partner.

This celebrated ensemble out of San José State University brings a lively performance that celebrates community, culture, and the power of music. Conducted by José R. Torres-Ramos, Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology and Mariachi, the ensemble comprises undergraduate and graduate students at SJSU, as well as San José-based musicians. Mariachi San José performs repertoire predominantly from Mexico’s música ranchera genre. The ensemble maintains an active schedule performing for university, civic, and community events.
