Ripon College Chamber Singers will perform Nov. 18

The Ripon College Chamber Singers will perform Nov. 18 on the campus. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. It is free and open to the public.

The program will include four psalm settings from both the Christian and Jewish traditions; and “Ubi Caritas” from “Quarte motets sur des thèmes grégoriens,” by Maurice Duruflé.

“Kasar mie la gaji,” by Alberto Grau, translates to “The earth is tired.” In response to this work that deals with climate change, Associate Professor of Art Mollie Oblinger has created a piece of art. The artwork will appear on stage at the concert, and Oblinger will introduce it.

Another set of works deals with loving relationships from the perspective of both the parent and child. They include “The Lamb,” by John Tavener; “Buy Baby Ribbon,” by Steven Stucky; “To My Parents,” by Joshua Shank; and “You Are the New Day,” arranged by Peter Knight.

The concert will conclude with a wordless piece, “Gamelan,” by R. Murray Schafer, that is meant to evoke the sounds of a Balanese Gamelan ensemble.
