Ripon College to present Holiday Concert Dec. 11

Ripon College will present its annual Holiday Concert Sunday, Dec. 11. The concert will begin at 3:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

Four of the College’s ensembles will be featured.

  • Jazz Ensemble will perform “Christmas Time is Here,” from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” and a haunting jazz arrangement of “Coventry Carol.”
  • Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform an arrangement of J. S. Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and two Leroy Anderson favorites, “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.”
  • Chamber Singers will sing “Three Medieval Carols,” by John Mochnick, accompanied by tambourine; and John Tavener’s ethereal “The Lamb,” a setting of a poem by William Blake.
  • Choral Union will perform an arrangement of the traditional carol “Tomorrow Shall be My Dancing Day,” accompanied by percussion; and “Hope for Resolution,” combining the ancient hymn “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” with a South African song. This will be accompanied by piano, flute and soprano sax.

The concert will conclude with an audience sing-along.

Kurt Dietrich, Professor of Music, directs the instrumental ensembles. John C. Hughes, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, directs the choirs.
