Contemporary jazz, timeless poetry to be combined in concert at Ripon College

Bassist, vocalist and composer Katie Ernst will be the guest artist March 3 at a Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon concert at Ripon College. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts

Ernst sets Dorothy Parker poetry to music in her song cycle, Little Words. The song cycle will be performed by a quartet featuring saxophonist Dustin Laurenzi, pianist Rob Clearfield and drummer Andrew Green for an evening of contemporary jazz and timeless poetry.

“Little Words” has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as “an ethereal, oft-haunting suite … a gentle, disarming work that stands out for its intimacy in an often-raucous world,” and by Jazz Magazine as “a concise set that winningly blends jazz, pop and classical elements, showcasing Ernst’s buttery alto and her creative way with melody.”

Tickets are available by calling 920-748-8126 or at the door.
