Rebecca Matzke, associate professor of history, published a column in the Oshkosh Northwestern Sunday, April 9. The article, “100 years ago, Oshkosh went to war” details the history of Wisconsin’s involvement in World War I.
Matzke writes, “Most Wisconsinites supported neutrality. Partly this was due to the state’s wide range of political movements and parties, including Republicans who opposed Wilson’s Democrats.”
Matzke is a board member of the Oshkosh Public Museum. Her work for this piece was part of the 100-year anniversary of the United States entry into World War I.
She specializes in modern European history, naval history and world history.
