Symphonic Wind Ensemble to perform Sunday
The Ripon College Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert this Sunday, April 23, at 3:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center of the Arts.
The 55-member ensemble will feature one of the great works of concert band literature, Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy,” a collection of radical settings of British folk songs. The other major work on the program is contemporary American composer David Maslanka’s “Heart Songs.” Also on the program are Clifton Williams’ exciting “Fanfare and Allegro,” Wisconsin composer Larry Daehn’s “As Summer Was Just Beginning” (a tribute to James Dean), and one of John Philip Sousa’s beloved marches, “The Thunderer.”
The ensemble is directed by Kurt Dietrich, professor of music and Barbara Baldwin De Frees Chair in the Performing Arts.
