Ripon College Jazz Ensemble will perform April 28
The Ripon College Jazz Ensemble will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28. The performance will be in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the campus. Admission to the concert is free.
The program will feature distinctly contrasting styles. On one side are classic big band arrangements first performed by the Duke Ellington and Count Basie bands in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. On the other end of the spectrum are contemporary jazz compositions by David Springfield and three outstanding Wisconsin jazz writers — Fred Sturm, Patricia Darling and Paul Dietrich.
The jazz improvisation group also will perform two classic jazz pieces by Horace Silver and Nat Adderley.
The groups are directed by Professor of Music Kurt Dietrich.
