‘The Government Inspector’ to be presented by Ripon Summer Players June 2-4

Take one rural Russian town, add a greedy mayor, a corrupt group of officials, and one charming con man, and you have the ingredients for a classic comic romp. The Ripon Summer Players will present an updated adaptation of the play “The Government Inspector,” one of the world’s great farces, June 2-4.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. June 2 and 3 and 2 p.m. June 4 in Benstead Theatre, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the Ripon College campus. Tickets may be purchased at Ripon Drug or at the door. The tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.

The Ripon Summer Players have taken a timeless classic written by Nikolai Gogol in 1836 and given it a modern spin. The Tsar has been replaced by Putin, but the play still rings true, and the great laughs are still there for all to enjoy.

Appearing in the play are Maic D’Agostino, John Ingeman, Jim Tronoff, Linda DeCramer, Andrea Young, Robin Woods, Brian Reilly, Robert Amsden, Steve Arbaugh, Doug Northrop, Ben Morris, Jack Christ, Ermias Woldu, Leah Simon and Nicole Polar. The play is directed by Kenneth Hill, professor of theatre, and designed by John Dalziel, associate professor of theatre, and Susan McDaniel Hill, costume designer and shop supervisor.

The backstage crew features Bev Christ, Sarah McGowan and Donna Marquart.

The Ripon Summer Players, a joint project of the Ripon Noon Kiwanis and the Ripon College theatre department, was founded to provide quality live theatre for this community.
