Ripon Students Gather Warmth and Words for Area Children

Students in Ripon College’s elementary literacy class (EDU 341) have laid down a challenge called the “Books and Jammies” project. If education students and other members of the Ripon College community collect 75 children’s books paired with warm pajamas by December 5, the Educational Studies faculty will wear their own pajamas for the last day of classes on Friday, December 7.

The books and pajamas collected will be donated to local food pantries for distribution to families in need. The project hopes to promote literacy and provide warm winter clothing during what can be a difficult season for many families.
The Books and Jammies project is supported by the Educational Studies Department of Ripon College and the Rock River Reading Council.

Members of the community willing to donate to the project are asked to follow the guidelines below:

Purchase a new pair of winter pajamas for a child size newborn to 16. Please avoid holiday themed pajamas, and remember that older children need warm pajamas as much as infants and toddlers.
Buy a book that is age-appropriate to the pajama size. Most books list the audience age somewhere on the cover. Please consider buying a Spanish language or bilingual book.

Black-out the prices on tags and put the items in a large zip closure plastic bag. Label the bag with the pajama size, book title, and gender (if needed).

Bring your donation to the collection box outside the elevator on the third floor of Todd Wehr Hall by Wednesday, December 5th.
