Ripon College presents one-act play festival

The Ripon College Theatre Department will present the Student-Directed One Act Play Festival April 11 through 13 in Benstead Theater, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the Ripon College campus. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. all three days.

Plays to be performed Thursday are “Words, Words, Words,” by David Ives; “Mars Needs Women, But Not As Much As Arnold Schecter,” by Rich Orloff; and “The Arabian Nights,” by David Ives.

Plays to be performed Friday are “Heights,” by Amy Fox; “The Proposal,” by Anton Chekhov; and “Words, Words, Words.”

Plays to be performed Saturday are “Mars Needs Women, But Not As Much As Arnold Schecter”; “The Arabian Nights,” “Heights” and “The Proposal.”

“The Proposal” is being directed by Dawn Burnside, ’13 of Minnetrista, Minn. The setting is rural Russia in 1888. The cast features Stephen Umhoefer ’15 of Green Bay, Wis.; JoHanna Burton ’13 of Elkhorn, Wis.; and Irving Reyes ’13 of Waukegan, Ill.

“Words, Words, Words” is directed by Charlotte Lee ’13 of Vancouver, Wash. The cast features Josh Pilla ’16 of Marine on St. Croix, Minn.; Kally Gagnon ’14 of Mount Horeb, Wis.; and Carly Lundt ’16 of Madison, Wis.

“Heights” is set on a rooftop in New York City at 2 a.m. It is being directed by Jessie Lillis ’13 of Coldwater, Mich. The cast includes JaneMarie Erickson ’16 of Redgranite, Wis.; Carl Meisner ’16 of Minnetonka, Minn.; and Casey Simonson ’13 of Mound, Minn.

“Mars Needs Women, But Not As Much As Arnold Schecter” is set in a coffee shop in Passaic, N.J. It is directed by Alex Reid ’13 of Westford, Mass. The cast includes Brian Fritsch ’16 of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Sara Norden ’14 of Grand Forks, N.D.; London Mosher ’16 of Sun Prairie, Wis.; Dan Miles ’13 of Milwaukee, Wis.; Paul Meuer ’13 of Elburn, Ill.; and Melissa Velpel ’16 of Eagle River, Wis.

“The Arabian Nights” is set in an Egyptian bazaar in the year 2000. The director is Ross Weinert ’13 of Bruce, Wis. Members of the cast are Amanda Finn ’14 of Dousman, Wis.; Michael Lanphier ’15 of Waterloo, Wis.; and Bryn Teter ’16 of Marshfield, Wis.

Admission to the play festival is free.
