James Thompson’s ‘Celestial Bodies’ art exhibit to be at Ripon College

“Celestial Bodies,” an exhibit of art by James Thompson, will be on view Sept. 8 through Oct. 13 in Caestecker Gallery, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, at Ripon College. An artist’s talk will be presented at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 to open the exhibit.

Thompson is a 1973 graduate of Ripon College and a professor of art and curator at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.

“Celestial Bodies” consists of kiln-formed glass inspired by the solar system. Thompson’s work is meant to convey the immediacy and distance in our present experience of celestial and terrestrial time.

Thompson is an inter-media creative practitioner with a reputation of being one of the most innovative and intriguing artists in the Pacific Northwest. He earned his MFA from Washington University School of Fine Arts in 1977. His art has been featured in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions throughout his career and is included in public and private collections in the United States and abroad.

This event at Ripon College is made possible through the Caestecker Endowment and is part of this year’s Caestecker Fine Arts Series.
