Faculty violinist Mishan Han will perform recital Sept. 10

Mishan Han, adjunct instructor of music at Ripon College, will present a faculty violin recital at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. The recital will be in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, and admission is free.

Among his selections are: Praeludium & Allegro, “Caprice Viennois,” Op. 2, and other works by Fritz Kreisler; “Meditation,” by Alexander Glazunov; “Intermezzo Scherzoso,” by Gustav Saenger; “Caprice a-Moll,” by Henryk Wieniawski; “Salut d’Amour,” Op. 12, by Edward Elgar; “Aus der Heimat,” No. 2, by Friedrich Smetana; “Ragtime Dance,” by Scott Joplin; and the spiritual “Deep River.”

Kirstin Ihde, pianist, an assistant professor of piano at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, will be the accompanist.

Han has been hailed as “prodigious, overpowering” by the Los Angeles Times and was awarded the “Urkunde mit Auszeichnung” by Vienna International Music Competition in 1994. His career as a soloist, chamber music player, and member of professional orchestras extended from Asia to Europe and North America.

A graduate of prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, he won a full scholarship to study chamber music with Juilliard String Quartet at Michigan State University, and a scholarship for graduate studies at San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

He was the founder and soloist of Regenlied Duo (violin and piano), which had concert engagements throughout North America and a CD release from a live concert recording. He has been a member of professional orchestras for more than 20 years and now is a free-lance violinist residing in Madison, Wisconsin.
