Stovel Organizes International Workshop

In November 2013, Emily Stovel, associate professor and chair of the Ripon College anthropology department, organized a large multinational workshop in Mendoza, Argentina with the top specialists in South-Central Andean archaeological ceramic analysis.

Experts from Germany, the United States, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile attended the workshop and worked towards a number of common objectives. An overarching goal was to evaluate the current state of their field and its knowledge base and identify areas that require further investigation.

The group also discussed and presented on the movement of ceramics between regions and discussed strategies for developing a better understanding of these interactions.

In addition, they laid the groundwork for possible future projects and a joint text on ceramic variation of the South-Central Andes.

The workshop received financial support from the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research.
