Kraaz Performs, Lectures in North Carolina

Professor Sarah Mahler Kraaz, Chair of the Ripon College Music Department and an accomplished organist, recently performed in North Carolina as part of the Brevard College Division of Fine Arts’ Guest Artist Series.

Kraaz opened her March 23rd performance with “Ballo del granduca” (Dance of the Grand Duke), a piece by composer Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck from near the turn of the 17th century and worked her way, semi-chronologically towards 20th century composers before concluding with Charles-Marie Widor’s “Toccata (Symphony No. 5 in c).”

Kraaz also gave a guest lecture on two 19th century women composers, Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann, during her visit to the Brevard campus.
