Lamont Colucci Named Interim Director of New Politics Center at Ripon College

Lamont ColucciRipon College announced today that Lamont Colucci will serve as the Interim Director of the Center for Politics and the People, a newly launched initiative designed to promote constructive political debate on campus and in the larger community.

Colucci is Associate Professor and Chairman of the Politics and Government Department at Ripon College, and coordinates the College’s National Security Studies program. He has a doctorate in politics from the University of London, England and is a former Fulbright scholar to the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. He has been awarded the Severy Excellence in Teaching award, the Faculty Mentor Award, and the Underkofler Outstanding Teaching Award. He is a prolific researcher on a variety of topics from international relations to national security and U.S. foreign policy. He writes about these topics and more in a regular column for U.S. News & World Report, and is also author of The National Security Doctrines of the American Presidency: How they Shape our Present and Future, among other books.

“Lamont Colucci is an excellent teacher, scholar and faculty member,” said Zach Messitte, president of Ripon College. “I know that he will do a wonderful job in helping the Center to build a foundation for the kinds of cross disciplinary programs, events and ideas that will enrich the Ripon College community.”

The Center for Politics and the People at Ripon College launched this spring in an effort to promote constructive political debate by informing students, the community and citizens concerned with good governance in politics and public policy. In April, the Center hosted operatives from the Republican Governors Association and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as well as Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

The Center will host United States Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) on May 2 at 4:15 p.m. in Great Hall, Harwood Memorial Union.
