Ripon College receives grant to fund new paid internship opportunities
The Center for Social Responsibility at Ripon College has again received a Career Ready Internship Initiative grant of up to $150,000 through Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation. This is the second consecutive year Ripon College has received this grant. With this funding, the College is placing juniors and seniors with demonstrated financial need into over 90 paid internships at not-for-profit organizations, businesses, governmental offices and in offices and departments at Ripon College.
The grant program will carry through the 2014-2015 academic year. Last year, the grant provided paid internship opportunities to 60 students. The internships created through this grant are designed to aid students in gaining vital skills and experiences that will prepare them for graduate school and the work world.
Past internships include opportunities at the Green Lake Town Square, Ripon Printers, Inc., Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County, Accurate Controls, Ripon Kiwanis Club and Ripon College. This year’s program will focus on creating new paid internship opportunities so employers who did not have interns through the program last year are encouraged to call Lindsay Blumer, executive director of the Center for Social Responsibility at Ripon College at 920-748-8316.
Knowing that education has the power to change lives for the better, Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation & Affiliates helps millions of students pay for college and repay their student loans. Through Community Investments, Great Lakes leads initiatives and funds programs that help students from traditionally underserved backgrounds start and complete a two- or four-year degree or other credential.
