Join Las Posadas for evening of Hispanic holiday traditions
The fourth annual celebration of Las Posadas, hosted by La Unida, will start at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in Bovay’s Study Bar & Mercantile, 329 Watson St., downtown. Students are welcome to join La Unida for a night of caroling, music and food.
At 6 p.m., participants will rehearse Spanish carols, one of which is Las Posadas, which describes Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter on the night Jesus was born. After rehearsal, students will walk throughout the downtown Dickens of a Christmas event singing carols. After caroling, carolers will return to Bovay’s to enjoy music and traditional Hispanic food.
La Unida strives to teach the Ripon community about Latin American and Hispanic culture, and to celebrate these cultures. “We hope our guests indulge in learning songs in a different language, learn about a religious observation, and enjoy good food,” said La Unida member Jairo Javier ’19 of Chicago, Illinois.
