Holiday concert to be given by Ripon College musical ensembles Dec. 10

The Ripon College Department of Music will present its holiday concert at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. Admission is free.

Choral Union will sing Rejoice in the Lord Alway, by Henry Purcell, featuring soloists Sara Jane Anderson of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Riley Erickson ’19 of Nekoosa, Wisconsin; and Randy Zieth of Green Lake, Wisconsin. They also will sing Abbie Betinis’s arrangement of In the Bleak Midwinter, with soloists Rachel Hicks ’21 of Endeavor, Wisconsin; Callista DeCramer ’20 of Princeton, Wisconsin; and Halina Decker ’21 of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Chamber Singers will perform Glory to God in the Highest, by Randall Thompson, and Mark Hayes’s jazzy arrangement of It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

Jazz Ensemble will play two jazz arrangements by Rich De Rosa, of Hark! the Herald Angels Sing and Joy To the World.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble will play a medley, arranged by Robert Sheldon, called A Most Wonderful Christmas. Tunes included in the medley are Winter Wonderland, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

The group also will play an arrangement of the two different tunes for Away in a Manger, arranged by Tom Wallace. The group will conclude the concert with the sing-along medley with the audience, It’s Christmas, arranged by Warren Barker. Tunes will include Jingle Bells, O Come, All Ye Faithful, Joy to the World, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Deck the Halls, Silent Night and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Professor of Music Sarah Kraaz, College organist, will play other sing-along carols during stage changes throughout the program.
